This is a critical response to the grave issue of climate change, and we can't allow this bill to be decimated as some would do.You will find information below as to what you can do. First, some useful information.
This legislation (SB 450 in the Senate, AB 649 in the Assembly) would reduce global warming emissions, increase the use of renewables, including by businesses and homeowners, support energy efficiency, and provide for smart growth and better transportation options.
It WILL also create jobs! It will also keep money here in Wisconsin, and help lower utility bills and health care costs. We spend over $20 billion annually to import fossil fuels that make us and the environment sick. Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce is using a completely faulty and erroneous study to claim it will cost us jobs, and they have the funds to once again spread their false messages. This is about your future, and your children's and their children's. What do you want it to be?
We also need to take a leadership role and set an example for Washington to follow.
IF YOU TAKE ONLY ONE ACTION THIS YEAR TO CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS, NOW IS THE TIME!
They need to hear from us, as well as our family, friends and members of other groups.
This legislation would:
* Reduce global warming emissions by 75% by 2050
* Set a goal of 25% of our energy to be from renewables by 2025
* Decrease energy consumption through efficiency measures
* Provide support to make small scale, local installation of renewable energy more affordable for all
* Create over 15,000 good new jobs in Wisconsin
* Decrease mercury going into our lakes, and reduce health care costs from pollution
* Invest in growth and transportation policies that will provide cleaner air
Tell your legislators these items are important and that the bill needs to be kept strong.
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS TODAY!
There is no guarantee this will pass, or in a strong form. Your voice is critical!
