In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested in joining us?
Since 2001, I've been speaking about peak oil in public, writing letters to editors, hosting video showings to raise awareness of the need for an energy transition. In a weaker and more passive way, I've been studying and sharing "limits to growth" information since attending an environmentally-focused university in the 1970s.
How are you currently involved in the Transition movement? If not involved currently, just state that.
Am now moving to River Falls, WI from Green Bay--hoping to network, participate and lead local activities
What skills/talents/resources/interests do you bring to the Transition movement?
writing, public speaking, organizing, media education campaign management, arranging guest speakers for the community

Hi Paul,
Once you've created your group, two things happen. 1) an entry is made in Recent Activities on the homepage, remaining there for a day or so; 2) you have the option to INVITE new people to your group. Go into the group River Falls and issue your invitations. In addition, your text should make it clear that every person you invite is also invited to INVITE.
Les-- I'm trying to start a group in River Falls, WI. But I don't see anything on this site that alerts potential members of my existence or my intention to start such a chapter. Did my prior message get lost? I entered data, including phone numbers and e-mail addresses. Please advise.
Okay, here are the steps:
1. Go to http://transitionwisconsin.ning.com/groups/group/new. (You may have to log on first.)
2. Choose a name for your group, such as Transition River Falls.
3. Upload an image to represent your group. This can be a file from your computer, or an image on the internet that you download to your desktop.
4. Choose the last part of your group's URL. It doesn't have to be the same as the group's name, and ideally is short, like "riverfalls."
5. Fill in your location.
6. You can go with the default features for now. But you will need to decide whether membership is open to anyone or must be approved. I like moderated membership b/c if nothing else I can keep track of how many people are joining. People who stumble upon the site can still join; they just have to have their request approved. If you'd rather let the group run on autopilot (eg, if you don't go online frequently), you can allow anyone to join.
7. I would recommend leaving the "Allow members to send messages to the entire group" box checked, as this allows the list to function like a listserv. On the other hand, if you prefer to maintain tighter control over messages, uncheck this box.
8. Click the Add Group button.
9. You can fill in a simple group description in the text box for now, or make it more elaborate if you like. You can also check out the other community pages in Wisconsin (eg, Transition Milwaukee) for ideas about what to include in the text box. Think of it as the main body of the page.
10. You can start Discussions if you want, or wait until members start them. They will be separate from the Transition Wisconsin Discussions.
Let me know if you have any questions or problems along the way. I'm still learning myself but will help however I can!
Welcome, Paul! It's great to have someone with your experience and passion here! If you'd like to start an online forum for your area, you can do so by clicking the Groups tab. Let me know if I can help.
