Profile Information

In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested in joining us?
I love the movement's combination of hopefulness and pragmatism.
How are you currently involved in the Transition movement? If not involved currently, just state that.
A group I co-founded, Paths to a Sustainable Future, has been focusing on peak energy & relocalization in the Milwaukee area since Feb 2007. We started an initiative called Live Local Milwaukee. We've been Transition "mullers" for a while now, too, trying to figure out how to implement it in a large city. I'm also involved in a local currency planning group, and various other networks focused on local food, permaculture, etc.
What skills/talents/resources/interests do you bring to the Transition movement?
I'm mostly a behind-the-scenes organizer and I like to bring together people from different groups to find areas of common interest. I have a small library of DVDs I'm willing to lend. I'm interested in all areas of Transition.
What would you be interested in doing?

Hi, Nicole, I did hear about the Jan 31 event. Please tell me how to register for it. That is what impelled me to sign up, but I don't know what to do next. Phyllis

Hi Nicole. I'm new on social networking so stumbeling around a little. I think my first message didn't go through. So-sorry if duplicating. We are working on an official Hay River Transition Initiative. Not quite ready. We have long time residents, dairy farming folks, and lots of transplants from the cities, CSA folks. We want to bring these groups together. We hosted a carnival and old-time demonstrations at Dairy Days in July. Proceeds went to local food pantry. That got our name in front of people. We are now planning two showings of Chris Martenson and specifically inviting key community members, working toward diversity. The response will be a good test for us.

Thanks, Nicole! My neighbor told me about Transitions so thought I would check it out. Looking forward to see what's happening with this group, and if I can get involved!

Hi Nicole,
I actually thought I was joining the Madison blog... oh well, good to meet you! I actually coordinated bringing Mark Lakeman, founder of City Repair to Madison last summer. He was here for 4 days and we generated a lot of renewed interest for the project. Currently I'm writing a grant for our neighborhood council which will hopefully fund some meetings to bring an intersection repair project to fruition here.

Don't know much about Transition Towns, except we have a new group forming here in Madison - spinning off of our permaculture guild, and overlapping with several new groups - including City Repair. I'd love to see it all under one heading (and one email listserve!). I also like to bring together people from different groups to find common interests!

Good Morning Nicole,

I think we could definately do a periodic blog dealing with different aspects of community living or at least what our small community is experiencing in terms of challenges, learning and fun. It seems there's always something going on.

And we are discussing a WPR afternoon program with Ben Merens which would be exciting!

Good morning! Great letter you just sent to your members. Would you mind if we offered this a draft for other states?

Hi Nicole,
I found out about the website through Sura's post on RNA. I've been a neighbor of hers on Booth St for about 12 years. I briefly checked out the webpage and saw mention of peak oil. That's what hooked me. I'll try to read up in the meantime and get caught up with the rest of you, and perhaps even make a meeting or two.

Nicole,
I'm looking forward to getting to Viroqua...have had difficulty coordinating the trip there but when the time is right things will fall into place.
I am happy to see some activity around transition towns coming from Viroqua...I was naturally drawn to this location...so hopefully I'll be there soon.

Thanks for asking,
Ros

The local Waldorf school had script that some businesses would take with part of the exchange going to the school. It met with some large measure of suspicion with the long-time locals...They have their own money over there, don't they? So local money might be more trouble than it is worth, but there is interest in gathering investors to support green local business. It is still being sorted out what that will mean, but it should shape up soon.
