Profile Information

In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested in joining us?
I've been growing increasingly weary of the over-consumptive civilization I've grown up in. For years, I've questioned the path we were on, only to be met with incredulity. It seems that people are finally beginning to see, more and more, the predicament we've got ourselves into. Irregardless, I see no future for a species that has no respect for that which sustains it and offers it life. If we cannot be good caretakers of this planet, we may may lose the option to even be residents.
How are you currently involved in the Transition movement? If not involved currently, just state that.
Technically, I'm not. Idealistically, pragmatically, I research alternative and conventional means of energy production and conservation. I consider my impact on the environment, whether I am in a city or in nature, and seek means to live more harmoniously with the environment. I consider myself lucky to be a sentient being on this planet, at this time, and seek ways to contribute to its health and longevity using my unique skills, talents, and abilities.
What skills/talents/resources/interests do you bring to the Transition movement?
Mathematical proficiency, research skills, love of education and a desire to learn, scientific investigatory prowess and an inventive and creative mind, humor, decent mechanical knowledge, electronics, computer troubleshooting, repair, administration, networking, Sort of a jack-of-all-trades with a pronounced mechanical/electrical/scientific focus. I have many tools, instruments, parts, and a peculiar love of salvage, surplus, pre-owned goods, scavenging and creative re-use of otherwise "useless" or "junk" materials. I am bothered by the idea of waste. Oh, I can also "use the internet" very well, meaning locate information and resources.

Welcome, Jack! Great to have you here. When you get a chance, please also join Transition Milwaukee (see Communities > Milwaukee) so you stay in the loop on local developments. Our next meeting hasn't been scheduled just yet, but a notice will go out to the Milwaukee group once it has been confirmed.
