Profile Information

In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested in joining us?
This seems like the only hopeful solution Ive seen to the wide array of financial, cultural and environmental problems that we are facing.
How are you currently involved in the Transition movement? If not involved currently, just state that.
Just starting an intitiative in Shorewood Wisconsin. I also founded The Victory Garden Initiative here in the Milwaukee area. Urban food production is crucial the Transition Movement and to our future.
What skills/talents/resources/interests do you bring to the Transition movement?
I am a pretty good organic farmer. I have a strong professional background in addiction and behavior change. I hope to use this within the Transition Movement , to give people insight into their dependencies on oil, and abused resources. I am also a pretty darn good community organizer!
What would you be interested in doing?
So far, The Transition Handbook, by Rob Hopkins. Followed by Deep Economy and Michael Pollan books about the food system. Also, see the Future of Food, and The Power of Suburbia.

Hey Gretchen,
Thanks for inviting me; looks to be an interesting and important effort. I just hope I can find a way to weave it into the rest of my 'stuff'. :-)
Have a good weekend.., maybe see you Sunday.

Kind words - however, I have to admit that it was part laziness as the screen insisted that I write something and I was in the middle of a phone call while I was joining... I'll ponder and update with something later :)

Eli has a band concert, so I'm afraid we can't support you tonight. However, I did go to the school board meeting last week and speak up for the garden!! I have to go back and look at the time for the next meeting (Monday, I think?) and get it on the schedule for at least Sam and I.

Happy Friday, Gretchen. How did the two meetings (Monday night with the Village and last night at Schwartz) go?

Keep me apprised of goings on.

Also, be sure to check out the rebates available at Focus on Energy (focusonenergy.com) and from the stimulus (30% of your energy efficient purchase up to $1500) this year.

Absolutely! I will see if I can 'grab' the VGI logo from the website. And if you can add a link on the VGI website to Transition Wisconsin, that would be fabulous!

Hi, Gretchen,
I would need to make our meeting closer to 8:30 on any given morning...or towards the end of the day. I work in Menomonee Falls.
Let me know.

Gretchen,
This is exciting! How about I come to your house to look at your situation and at the same time you can fill me in on the Shorewood initiatives. I have some free time Saturday or Sunday afternoon, or we could look at meeting on a weekday morning...after you kids leave for school?
Let me know what works. My cell # is 414 405 7103.

Gretchen,
Who have you talked to in the village about the community compost? I remember they used to have one in Glendale.

There are some added energy incentives for home improvements in the stimulus package..I'll be glad to explain them to you.

When you get a chance, Gretchen, please post a link to the VGI website on the Trans Wisconsin Forum, in the Food category. A brief description of the group along with the link, maybe even the logo (click the upload photo icon) would be fabulous!

Hi Gretchen! I'm so glad to have met you and to be collaborating on this project. When you get a chance, please also join Transition WISE (see the Groups menu) where we can organize and discuss activities specific to the Milwaukee area. I started a thread under the Discussion Forum there where we can talk about our next book order. Talk to you soon!
