Community Resilience, Self-Reliance, Renewable Energy & Cooperation

hey! my partner joni and i are looking for a community of people to become involved with with the intention of sustainable farming and developing local economies and sustainable communities.

we are currently living near hillsboro in southwest wisconsin and would consider relocating to any community in southern wisconsin where we could find like minds. we were hoping to find someone to rent us land with the possibility of buying it or a rent-to-own situation.the important thing for us would be to find a living situation on whatever land we settle on or nearby, either a pre-existing structure or a place to live while a structure is built. we'd love to find a group who is open to trading labor or in some other way working together and building community. the way of the future will lie in coming together more... we have 20 years of combined farmwork on vegetable farms as a body of experience to offer, plus other practical skills. joni is a teacher and would love to get set up as a local homeschooling tutor.

we can be reached at kevmcgraw@yahoo.com

hope to hear from you! sincerely kevin mcgraw and joni warsinski

Hi Kevin,

My husband, David, and I are currently living in the UK but are planning on relocating back to WI in the next few months (fingers crossed for no problems with visas). My family are originally from the Wausau area but we are really drawn to the driftless area. We too would love to be apart of a progressive and sustainable community to live in and raise our children. It would be fabulous if our paths crossed at some point. We're seriously considering building our own house (cordwood) and starting up a permaculture homestead but will need a lot of extra hands to get it done. We'd be delighted to work out a bartering system or maybe even considered buying a larger plot of land to split? We don't have a lot of experience but plenty of enthusiasm :) Great to hear about your wife too as we're planning on homeschooling our children and it's always good to know a few more minds to share knowledge.

Look forward to hearing more about your adventure and wish you the best of luck at finding a plot of your own.

mel,

thanks for getting in touch. you may want to get in touch with us when you get back to the states!

we are part of a group of people who are trying to make an extended community of sorts in hillsboro wisconsin. i have listed the ad for one of these places on line at the fic website. it is called greenleaf outreach. we are going over ther this evening to talk about the next step. it would be great to tell them of your interest. green leaf is currently taking form and much of the info on the fic is accurate but if joni and i decide to move on this we would want to try to start up a csa there. we would really love for it to become a homesteading community that would exist to teach those who are seeking a life closer to nature, living in a sustainable way. peter farms with horses there, but we don't now much about it so it would be a learning experience for us!

please get in touch. our number is 608)692-8691 my email is kevmcgraw@yahoo.com

take care and thanks for your interest.

ps. oh i almost forgot to tell you about the other place! jewelweed community. tom martish is the founder and a friend of peter smith. we want to get him inlvoled as a sort of satellite community to peter.i plan to post hi ad on the fic soon. he lives in a valley with the amish and has no electric.he has building site there. he lives right next the amish scholl house. there is also another non affiliated community in ontario ,wi.its called echo valley. they have some scholl aged children and they have,i believe, a school there, but don't hold me to it cause i don't know all the details...

anyway stay in touch. it would be good to talk to you more!!!!!

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the great reply! I'm really pleased to hear about the Greenleaf project, it sounds just like the thing we'd be interested in. We'd love to live rurally but want to have a close community at hand when times get tough. I'm keen to hear about how the meeting went. I'll send you an e-mail too, thanks again for the info.

Keep in touch,

Mel
